HILLSBORO AMERICAN LEGION POST HITS A TRIPLE!
Not only did they hit a triple, they also had to attempt it three times before being successful! Old Man Winter has a bad habit of messing up the works and thankfully this time, after two weather related postponements, the snow was light enough so that Young-Richardson Post #59 could hold its installation of officers on February 27, 2010.
Over 60 members and friends witnessed the triple installation: Legion Post 59, Auxiliary Unit #59, and (Sons of American Legion) SAL Squadron #59. Ernie Jones, District 5 Commander served as "Master of Ceremonies" and introduced the installing officers for the Squadron and Auxiliary.
Director Kimberly Woodward of District 5 Auxiliary and a member of Post 21 in Concord, installed Auxiliary Unit #59. Officers installed were: President, Doreen Hixson as proxy for Nancy Costello, 1st Vice President, Julie Cote, 2nd Vice President Angela Smart, and Historian Coral Grady.
Detachment 5 Commander Roger Young, from Post 28 in Suncook, installed Albert Young Jr. as Commander of Squadron 59.
District 5 Commander Ernie Jones and a member of Post 31 in Penacook, installed the Legion officers who were: Commander, Dawn Cookson, 1st Vice President Mark Bean, 2nd Vice President, Sean Daniels, Chaplain, Albert Young, Sr., Child and Youth Officer, Dan Barrett, and Service Officer, Jane Gefvert.
District 5 1st Vice President Kirk Laskey served as Sgt at Arms for the installation and District 5 2nd Vice President Joe Whelehan as Chaplain. Other members of District 5 attending were: Fred Richards, Service Officer and Richard Dahlgren, Adjutant and Historian.
Following the installation, visiting dignitaries, Tony Rabbia, Department Parliamentarian, Philip Cook, Detachment Commander of SAL and Charles Cook, Vice Commander of SAL, made brief remarks.
Commander Cookson then closed the meeting and a sumptuous array of refreshments awaited the officers, members and guests.
